Yak Sightings
Have you spotted the Yakman???

Diagnostic: likes roadsides, often scraggly in appearance, may bare teeth in upturned mouth expression, often seen attached to slow moving two wheel vehicle, affable demeanor, not considered dangerous. If seen, approach with hot food, free emailing and information on shelter for the Yak and Yakman as offerings.

Ouarzazate
Fri, 16 Feb 2001

Only a few times in my lifetime have I been completely knocked out or lost for words or even thankful for the moment. The first was the birth of my daughter Kelly on the 20 March 1980 and again more recently May 26 1999 I was fortunate enough to watch Manchester united beat bayarn Munich in Barcelona to lift the European cup. What could possibly havef happened to me in a small town called Ouarzazate on the peripheral of the Sahara dessert to compare with this. His name is Claude.

Known famously as "YAK" he originates from Switzerland and he departed in 1994 to circumnavigate the globe on his bicycle. Claude is a feature writer for numerous magazines and one of the most interesting people I have had the pleasure to meet. I listened for hours to his travel stories and he even read me extracts from his book, which is in draft form and dates back from day one of his departure. ... I asked Claude the same question I asked Simon and Bridget, what advise would you give me prior to my around the world trip and he says that is easy. "What opened more doors in life than any other is a firm handshake and a big smile."

The Yakman in Atar
Thu, 28 Dec 2000

Hi! My name is Fabrice, I am doing a trip with my bike and I've met the Yakman in Atar (Mauritanie).
I send you a few photos of him.

Bye, F. (http://tdmfabrice.free.fr)

P'tit bonjour

Thu, 08 Mar 2001

Bien amicalement,
Fabrice

The yak and gazelle in Nairobi
Wed, 5 Apr 2000

Dear Redfishes,

It's been a great journey, tough but lots of fun, and I am hoping to be able to join Claude again by the end of the summer! In Nairobi we met Michael Asher and his wife Marinetta Peru, very nice people. They were the first Europeans who crossed the Sahara by camel from West to East (Mauretania to Egypt) in nine months. Michael wrote many books about the desert nomads and now fiction as well. Here is a photo at their house in Nairobbery...! I believe Claude will be happy to see that picture when he arrives in Bangui! Warm nomadic greetings from over the Atlantic Ocean!
