This is a virtual world containing artificial life, the product of a seminar at the Rochester Institute of Technology. This site serves as an explanation and exploration of my work during this seminar. A broader explanation of the seminar itself, and the work of other students, can be found at the Alife Seminar Site [not yet constructed]. |

Abstract: Decision making and evolution are two complex procedures of life; the first relates to individuals and the second to populations. This project aims to simulate these complex, lifelike procedures in an artificial environment and explore the connection between the two. Also, the project aims to make these procedures easily understood by viewers of the virtual world. Special attention has been paid to the visualization of the world, maximizing the ease with which viewers can (1) differentiate between different individual behaviors and decisions, (2) witness the interaction between those individuals and their environment and (3) observe the evolution of the population over time. If you're like me,
and would like to see the simulation in action before reading further,
follow the "Demos of the Project" link below. |

| To get an idea of what Decision Making Turtles (DMTs) are doing, see "Introduction". To actually see the project in action, see "Demos of the Project". The underlying structure and implementation is explained in "Decision Making Procedures" and "Evolution/GA Procedures". Examples of the project that can be run on your own computer, along with documentation can be found in the "Downloads" section. "Other Resources" includes links and other material helpful in understanding the DMT project and Alife in general. Also, if you have an question, comments or requests, please contact me. |
